The Redmond City Council has approved a proposal to add 482 new parking spaces at the Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) This is the first parking expansion at the Redmond Airport in 15 years. The additional parking is needed because the airport is growing and has doubled the number of passengers served just in the last six years. The 2.5-million-dollar project could start in four to six weeks, weather permitting, with the job finished by the fall.

RDM has begun construction on our new Snow Removal and Equipment (SRE) Building!
This project was awarded to Kirby Nagelhout Construction and will continue through October 2020
To meet the operational demands of the Airport this project will construct a storage and maintenance facility for the Airport’s specialized airfield snow removal equipment. The facility will also provide office and conference space for the operations staff to adequately perform the summer and winter maintenance of the Airport.
Project construction started on October 7, 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of October of 2020.
The construction cost for this project is estimated at $11,400,000. The project is being funded through grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), The Oregon Department of Aviation (ODA), Energy Trust of Oregon, and City of Redmond funds.

Redmond Municipal Airport Begins Terminal Aircraft Parking Apron Expansion Project. April 2019 – Airport Services to Operate Without Interruption
Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) announces that groundbreaking has commenced for the expansion of the commercial service aircraft parking apron. To meet the growth demands of the Airport and help attract future destinations for the traveling public, this project will add additional aircraft parking spaces as well as allow for larger mainline aircraft to park and utilize the terminal facility.
Project construction started on April 8, 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by Mid-October of 2019. The terminal and both airport runways will remain open during the majority of the construction project, allowing commercial air service to operate.
This expansion project ensures Redmond Municipal Airport meets the most current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards to best serve the growing Central Oregon community for years to come. The construction cost for this project is estimated at $7,200,000. 93.75% of the project is funded through a FAA grant. The remainder is funded through a grant from the Oregon Department of Aviation and through local airport funds.

New Aviation Fuel Tank Installation Project (COMPLETE)
The Airport will be installing an additional aviation fuel tank on concrete foundations next to the current fuel tank location (across from North T-Hangars (K-2, K-4, and K-6) near the FBO.
Construction will take place beginning July 30, 2018 and should be of minimal inconvenience to the existing T-Hangar Tenants (K-2, K-4, and K-6) (Construction duration will be 30 days maximum on an intermittent basis)

Runway 11-29 Reconstruction is COMPLETE!

Runway 11-29 Reconstruction Start Date Changed to March 5th 2018
Due to weather issues and time constraints, the project start date has been pushed out to March 5th Runway 11-29 will now be closed to all fixed wing aircraft between March 5th and October 18th, 2018.
Redmond Municipal Airport to Begin Secondary Runway (11-29) Reconstruction Project March 2018 – Airport Services to Operate Without Interruption
Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) announces it will begin reconstruction of runway 11-29 on March 5th, 2018. The terminal and primary airport runway (5-23) will remain open during the entire reconstruction project, allowing commercial air service to operate without interruption. Fixed Based Operator (FBO) Leading Edge Jet Center will remain open as well. High Desert Aggregate and Paving is scheduled to complete the $10,000,000 project, and re-open the runway to all aircraft October 18, 2018.
“Due to the cross-section work completed as part of our 2016 primary runway reconstruction project, we will not have to close the airport to work on secondary runway 11-29,” states Airport Director Zachary Bass. “We are focused on improving our infrastructure with minimal disruption to the 800,000+ air passengers we serve annually, U.S. Forest Service operations, hangar tenants, and local business that call RDM home.”

COIDC's primary mission is to provide dispatch support and coordination for all-risk incidents to participating agencies and cooperators, through mutual aid agreements and memorandums of understanding, within the COIDC dispatch area. With responder and public safety always our highest priority, we effectively support natural resource management and emergency response through situational analysis, prioritization, and efficient operations.
"The City of Redmond has contracted with Griffin Construction, LLC for the construction of a new Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center (COIDC) at the Redmond Municipal Airport. The new 7,000 square facility is part of a twenty-year lease agreement with the United States Forest Service, supporting their efforts to relocate the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center (COIDC) to the Redmond Air Center at Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM).
The Forest Service’s COIDC provides dispatch support and coordination for all risk incidents for the Oregon Department of Forestry, BLM Prineville District, the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and the Crooked River National Grassland. They conduct over 1,000 flight operations and disperse approximately a million gallons of fire retardant annually. The development of a new, centrally located dispatch center at the Redmond Airport will improve efficiency and safety of those operations as well as the agency’s ability to respond to risk incidents.
“The City has had a successful 50+ year history with the U.S. Forest Service in the development of airport property,” states Redmond Airport Manager Zachary Bass. “We look forward to continuing that partnership for another twenty years as well as expanding the airport’s role in regional USFS firefighting efforts. Construction of the new dispatch center will make Redmond Air Center one of the largest USFS firefighting bases in the country.”
Since 2000, the City of Redmond (Redmond Airport) has invested $5 Million dollars in build-to-suit USFS facilities on Airport property. The cost and risk of building these facilities is offset by long term lease agreements. The City issued a 20-year Full Faith and Credit bond to finance the new COIDC facility in early 2016 in the amount of $2,500,000.00. The annual debt payment is $178,386.00 a year. The finalized lease with the Forest Service is for a guaranteed (cannot be terminated) twenty years at an annual rate of approximately $189,000, subject to final square footage verification as well the costs related to tenant improvements and other security requirements. The Forest Service has committed up to $150,000 towards additional tenant improvements, which is currently being negotiated. As it stands currently, the Airport will be providing $670,000 to fund the project. The total project cost is currently estimated at $3,170,000.00.
