Fire Rescue Training for Redmond Airport Aircraft Firefighters at RDM June 5-6th

Media Release

Date: 06/04/19

Subject: Fire  Rescue Training for Redmond Airport Aircraft Firefighters

On June 5th and 6th Redmond Fire and Rescue will be conducting fire rescue training at the Redmond Municipal Airport for our team of specially trained airport firefighters. Training will take place near the US Forest Service facilities within the Airport’s perimeter fence.

Each year the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airport firefighters to complete live fire training to maintain their qualifications. In the past, Redmond’s team of aircraft firefighters had to travel to various out of state training centers to obtain the required training. This year we have contracted with 139 Fire to bring the required training to us.

The training prop (Trainer) is a replica of the nose and body of an airplane. The Trainer is designed to provide intense, realistic firefighting conditions for the type of commercial aircraft Redmond Fire and Rescue protects at Redmond Airport.

For the first time, we will also be able to train with several mutual aid partners that would be assisting us with an actual commercial aircraft fire. Sunriver Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire District #1 will be attending this training event.

Media is invited to attend live fire training with the Trainer on June 6th at 9:30 a.m. Media will meet at the marked staging area located off SE USFS Drive and escorted to the training site. Staff will be available for interviews.
