Record Number of Passengers Expected to Impact Parking and Increase Security Lines During the Holidays

Nov-15-2018

Redmond Airport (RDM) has experienced a record number of passengers again in 2018 and expects the trend to continue over the upcoming holiday travel season. The increased passenger volume will lead to limited parking availability and increase waiting time in security screening lines at the airport. Travelers are encouraged to check RDM’s website at www.flyrdm.com for parking availability before arriving to the airport. Being prepared for parking and security screening will make for a more efficient and pleasant journey.

To help RDM passengers ‘know before they go’, RDM officials have updated the Airport website to include parking lot web-cams, located at http://www.flyrdm.com/?Airport-Parking-Lot-Cams. Airport officials will update parking availability on the Airport website  every 30 minutes and suggest using alternate travel ride share options during this holiday season. “It is important for travelers to understand we may reach our parking capacity a number of times throughout the holidays and we encourage them to seek alternative arrangements,” states Zachary Bass, Airport Director. “We also strongly encourage passengers to arrive no later than 2 hours prior to flight departure to clear through security, especially for flights departing between 5:00 A.M and 7:00 A.M. “

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires all travelers from RDM to place all electronics larger than a cell phone individually in bins separately from other items for X-ray screening, RDM does not have a TSA Pre-Check screening lane. Liquids, gel. aerosol and paste items must comply with TSA’s 3-1-1 liquids rule. Solid food items are acceptable. For example containers of jams and jellies are considered gels and nut butters are considered a paste, they are not allowed in carry-on baggage. If traveling with gifts, leave them unwrapped. While state law allows marijuana possession, air service is regulated by federal law which prohibits marijuana possession. More information about traveling with allowed/prohibited items is available at www.tsa.gov.

  • Airport parking rates are $1.00 for the first 30 minutes, after 31 minutes the $2.00 hourly rate is effective. Cash, credit and debit cards are accepted forms of payment. Maximum daily parking cost is $10.00 and the seventh day free.
  • Effective November 2018, RDM has established a temporary overflow parking lot for use during peak times. The Overlfow parking lot is located just Northeast of the Airport off of Salmon Avenue between Hillsboro Aero Academy and the Airport Tower. This is no parking fee for this lot, however, it is not patrolled by security, and parking here is at "At Your Own Risk"Permits can be obtained at the manned SP+ Parking booth in the Airport's primary parking lot when no paid parking spaces are available. Unauthorized vehicles without a valid permit are subjet to being towed.
  • The “cell phone waiting” area is free and located across the street from the Airport on Salmon Avenue.
  • The curb at the Terminal is for active loading and unloading only, no parking or waiting is allowed, due to Federal regulations. (Parking citations are $50.00)
  • Be prepared to leave, or arrive, in winter weather conditions that may present slippery or hazardous conditions. Allow extra time for driving and walking, safely, in winter conditions.

The Main Airport Terminal is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
